Graduate Teacher at Holy Family Technology College.

September 2006 - present

Outline of responsibilities:

  • Teaching 9 KS3 resistant materials, textiles and food technology classes.

  • Teaching 1 KS4 GCSE graphic products class.

  • Observing KS4 GCSE resistant materials and KS5 A’ level product design.

  • Shared responsibility for a year nine tutor group.

  • Leading a group of six year nines in the Go4Set Design / Engineering competition to design a sustainable water system for school.

  • Preparing and selecting resources, both for theoretical and practical lessons.

  • Assessing pupils’ work for achievement, effort and progress.

My GTP year at Holy Family has given me the opportunity to train while assuming all the normal responsibilities of a class teacher. I have built successful relationships with my classes and am confident now in my classroom management skills. I have become particularly adept at creating my own resources for the classroom and am working on improving the range of differentiated activities I can offer my classes.

  • Work placement during industrial experience at Goldsmiths College.

  • Designing the exhibition for Projeto Manual Colourido, a collaborative art project with Brazilian street children.

  • Designing and sending out proposals for the exhibition.

  • Designing a catalogue book to support the exhibition.

  • Applying for an arts council grant.

  • Designing a press release.

  • Designing and running an arts workshop for Key stages 2 and 3.

  • Stretching and preparing canvases for the exhibition.

Working at Flour gave me the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of working in a small company. The mix of necessary day-to-day tasks, from creative to administrative and communication work gave me a good understanding of the dedication and self-motivation needed to run such a company. This work experience helped me develop my communication skills and sense of self-responsibility and motivation in my work.

 

Sustainable Designer at Redbridge Council

September 2004 - April 2005

Outline of responsibilities:

  • Paid work placement during industrial experience at Goldsmiths College.

  • Worked in the planning policy department on urban regeneration and sustainable development projects.

  • Designed consultation tools for children and young people to identify their perceived contributing factors to a degenerated local area.

  • Promoting sustainable development to developers and the public.

  • Worked on both individual and team projects, arranging my own timetable and appropriate deadlines to achieve the objectives of the projects.
